Performance Improvement in the Modern American Hospital
Kenneth S. Moore
Abstract
Introduction
In the United States, healthcare is a profession for physicians, nurse, respiratory
therapists, pharmacists and technicians. It is also a business for hospitals, medical
supply and equipment companies, medical management companies and others. Regardless
of these distinctions, in general, what is good for our patients is good for both the
hospital and for the professional star.
Considering the business aspect of medical care in the USA, it is important to realize
that there is competition among hospitals and among physicians. Where there is
competition, there will be improvement of service and lowering of costs. If the patients
like the service that the hospital or physician provides, they will come back in the
future. They will bring their family and friends. They will recommend the hospital or
physician to others. This is a sign ova successful business.
